Putschists established “system of coup” after 12 September. Everything was for the state. The state was the most important point. Citizens were also for the state. It was a system that disregarded human rights completely and considered them as a danger for the state. It was based on hegemony of militarism. This “system of coup” is still going on in terms of its essence.
There is still a mentality that considers coups as legitimate, as well.
It is understood that there are also attempted coups. There are people, who are not satisfied with the existing system though it is a system of coup. Improvement of rights and freedoms of citizens frightens people that take advantages of system coup/s.
Anarchy and terrorism were given as excuses in the past. Social developments frightened them. It is understood that there is a new excuse in this period. Perhaps there was such reasoning: ‘Secularism was being lost! Sharia almost came! Therefore, military coup was legitimate, everyone was against sharia, subsequently; they were progressive and should support coup etc…’
Indeed it was militarists/authoritarian regimes that were lost/was going to be lost. They did not want to lose it. They wanted Turkey based on a militarist regime, where soldiers stand at the centre.
They must have wanted it.
It was fear of democracy.
It was fear of right and freedom.
Here is the summary of what we say:
Unless former coups are tried, it is not possible to overcome system of coups.
To accomplish it, system should be built according to the principle of rule of law and democracy. Values of the system should be human dignity, human rights and freedoms, peace, equality and solidarity.
Turkey does not need revengeful feelings and opinions but a system that is based on principles and values. And, this system should face up to past-for the future-by means of justice.
