Turkey is preparing to the forthcoming Newroz 2006 in an atmosphere which needs peace and brotherhood much more than usual. On one hand there is an insistence on war and violence by rivals against the all demands related to democratic and peaceful solution for Kurd problem. On the other hand, there are arguments related to lynch and violence culture that were popular after the Newroz 2005. Chauvinism is increased through these arguments. These activities in Tunceli were forbidden.
For the last 20 years Newroz, which has been celebrating in peaceful and brotherhood atmosphere by Turk, Kurd, Arab, Syrian and other people for 2600 years in this geography, was entitled the report on the dead and the injured during the celebrations. Newroz 2006 was brought up to social agenda with security summits, intelligence reports that given to Media, forbidden colours, attempts for assimilation to make official celebrations and counter reactions. There should be an atmosphere, in which all people have chance to celebrate Newroz as they want. There are task for all of us to provide such an atmosphere.
Any celebration days, which are not celebrated in a peaceful and brotherhood atmosphere rather than tension, cause people to become closer and decrease Nationalist/Chauvin tensions. In this respect;
Human Rights Association calls for all people especially state officials to behave peaceful and having common sense. Citizens, who will celebrate Newroz in squares, should be cautious on probable provocations. Media should not use a language, which causes/increases tension, in the news. Human Rights Association, comprising its all branches, will observe Newroz 2006 actively and reveal a report related to Newroz to public.
