In order to strengthen women’s representation on the basis of equality, the Co-Presidency system has been adopted by making amendments to Human Rights Association’s (IHD) regulation in the 18th Ordinary General Assembly.

Eren Keskin and Öztürk Türkdoğan were elected for Co-Presidency in the 18th Ordinary General Assembly of IHD. Other distribution of duties will be determined in the Central Executive Committee meeting to be held later on.

The regulatory deficiencies in order to open branches and representation offices abroad were corrected by regulatory amendments. It was decided that IHD will open branches in the important world capitals and countries in which IHD activists are densely located.

In the 18th Ordinary General Assembly of IHD, recent negative events were evaluated and it was emphasized that the deactivation of democratic politics by means of arresting HDP Co-Presidents, MPs and Co-Mayors is unacceptable and the democratic struggle is needed to be strengthened against these adverse events. Furthermore, on the basis of solidarity and companionship, attention to the situation of all political inmates in prisons was drawn and it was indicated that these cases are needed to be handled closely as it always has been.

During the assembly, the arrest of 9 journalists from the Cumhuriyet Newspaper was condemned and it was decided that intensive activities in the field of freedom of expression and the press will be carried out in order to act with solidarity with all intelligentsia, writers and journalists who were priorly in prison and performed authorship, editorship and consultancy of Özgür Gündem Newspaper, Dicle News Agency (DİHA), JINHA (Women’s News Agency) and several media organs.

Final declaration of the general assembly will be announced separately.
