There are news appeared in some daily newspapers which states that the Human Rights Association (HRA) has appointed lawyers to defend Abdullah Öcalan.”
Human Rights Association has not taken any decision concerning the defense of Öcalan in any of its executive organs. The Human Rights Association does not have such duty, authority and function.
A number of lawyers have been in charge of executive positions at the Human Rights Association’s headquarters and branches. HRA is not in a position to make interference to the lawyers’ professions and preferences. Lawyers are bound to the rules of their professions and are bound to the ethical values of the professional associations to which they are affiliated.
