Soldier’s Right to Life and Freedom

Soldiers, who were captured by Kurdistan Worker's Party or PKK, were released.

As Human Rights Association (IHD), we were pleased at the news of their release.

Because IHD defends right to life.

The attitude is valid for both armed conflict atmospheres, circumstances that are interesting field of Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law, which will be implemented under ordinary conditions of the regime.

Release of these soldiers without any harm (being alive and healthy) made certainly their parents and relatives happy as well.

Most probably, Turkish society also became happy for the release.

We share the happiness.

IHD considers attitudes and statements that praise, provocating and encourage death are attitudes, which are considered as unacceptable.

Attitudes (regard being captured or having a chance to become free as alive as if a crime) and derogatory statements, by politicians from the Government and other political parties and some of the visual-printed media companies (without considering any humanitarian values), about the situation are unacceptable for IHD.

What does being not pleased at the news of release and being alive of the soldiers mean?

Inclination of seeing children of citizens as a war machine or part of the machine should be rejected.

We think that such an inclination is lacking humanitarian essence.

Domestic peace of our country can be accomplished through respecting for honour of everyone.

Let's defend peace rather than war.

Let's defend life and freedom rather than death.
