This year is the 14th commemoration of Sivas massacre. 37 people, who had gone to Sivas for a cultural activity, lost their lives by fire in the Madımak Hotel. Sivas is one of the eastern cities in Turkey.
Sivas massacre, like many massacre in our recent date, were closed after some of perpetrators have been sentenced. There was no effective investigation and efforts to recover from trauma’s effects that occurred in our social life because of Sivas massacre’s outcomes. Indeed such massacres, which conducted against different social groups, harm members of these social groups in a serious manner. Moreover, such incidents cause to abnegate these people’s faith about social peace.
Living together within peace depends completely on efforts for recovering these traumas.
In order to recover Alevis’ trauma because of Sivas massacre; Madımak Hotel should be a museum.
To prevent such sorrow incidents all people in the society should give up their prejudices and discriminative attitudes. All people should improve a path to live together with our differences.
