(Mr. Ali Çekin, 77 years old prisoner, lost his life in Siirt prison, which is in the South East Region of Turkey)
Human Rights Association (İHD) has been conducting a campaign to draw attention to situation of ill prisoners in prisons since January 2008.
As the Headquarters and 29 branches of IHD, we send letter to one or more than one prisoners in every month. We send also one copy of these letters, signed by IHD’s president, to the Ministry of Justice.
On 10th July 2008, we drew attention to the situation of Mr. Ali Çekin who is 77 years old, is in Siirt prison and has liver cancer.
Mr. Ali Çekin lost his life two days ago.
Neither courts nor the President of the Republic of Turkey, who has authority of special amnesty, heard his situation…
We heard and tried to make it known.
We were late.
We were all late.
Ms. Hediye Çekin, who is wife of died prisoner or Mr. Ali Çekin, is also in Siirt prison and 72 years old.
Death separates people from each other also in prison. We ask the following question, which is inspired from Mr. Vaclav former President of Czech Republic:
Which are important walls or people?
