Some of our posters that we issued because of the Human Rights Day (10 December) and which includes “peace shall win” and “all equal, all different” slogans’ Kurdish version were confiscated under the decision of Van Justice Court.
Human Rights Association was used its rights which are recognized by the Law on Association. This matter was also a matter related to the cultural rights. Carried out activities in 33 provinces were also indicators of relevant provisions applications. In spite of the decision to confiscation, we stated our beliefs that the question would be resolved by laws.
Having positive attitudes not the speculative ones, the HRA have worked to improve and develop the human rights situation in Turkey.
Human rights are protected by following two fundamental powers; power of democratic public opinion and power of law.
Some of the press members from visual media, journals and newspapers condemned that the posters were confiscated; informed the public opinion; in their articles or stories they modified that this application could not be acceptable.
Judicial and executive bodies of the Government had positive attitudes on regarding matter. Finally the minister of Justice carried out its written order mechanism and he provided legal way to protect human rights in Turkey. We would like to express our thanks to him.
The Court of Cassation is finalized the matter by making an important decision which is essential to improvement of law in Turkey; which might be considered as an example that legislative way and particularly judicial power shall protect human rights.
We would like to thank to all individuals who have contributed to protect and improve of human rights and freedoms in our country.
