We condemn the violence inflicted on juveniles

After the public statement police teams attempted to detain juveniles on the grounds that they threw stones to the officers in Nusaybin District of Mardin Province on 12 October 2011 approximately at 4 PM. The juveniles hide themselves in the landmine field in the borderline between Turkey and Syria. The 19 juveniles between the ages of 14 and 16 were detained by law-enforcement officers from the field. The juveniles were seen as they were beaten by the law-enforcement officers with batons in the camera records broadcasted in the websites of Doğan News Agency and Hürriyet Newspaper.

The violence inflicted on the juveniles as well as the brutality of the gas which has experienced and became usual in Nusaybin District is not a situation that could be accepted. Authorities, particularly the Ministry of Interior Affairs should take action in the face of this violence as soon as possible.

This is why our association will make official complaints to the judicial and administrative authorities.

The authorities should discharge the law enforcement officers from their office as soon as possible.

We should not forget that torture and ill-treatment are crimes against humanity both in our codification system and in the international conventions.

We condemn the violence inflicted by the law enforcement officers.
