World Kobanê Day
November 1 is an important day for everyone around the world who defends peace and human rights. A group of academics, Nobel Peace Prize laureates, a group of human rights defenders and civil society organizations declared November 1 as World Kobane Day.
We all remember that on 15 September 2014, ISIS besieged the city of Kobanê, committing gross human rights violations, oppression, and persecution.
The Kurdish people resisted this ISIS attack for 134 days and at the end of the 134th day, the city of Kobanê was cleared of the aggressors. During these 134 days, there was great suffering. ISIS members entered Kobanê and its villages in vehicles and opened fire on all civilians, women and children. They mercilessly massacred many defenseless people in every house they entered. All this happened in front of the eyes of the world.
As human rights defenders, we salute the 134-day resistance of the Kurdish people against ISIS. We once again express our desire for peace and democracy all over the world.
Happy World Kobanê Day!
