Final Declaration of Meeting of the Turkey Coalition for the International Criminal Court

11 March 2025

Final Declaration of Meeting of the Turkey Coalition for the International Criminal Court

To the Press and the Public,

The International Criminal Court, which was established in 1998 with the Rome Statute, has been operating since 2002 to prevent genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and aggression, which are among the most serious crimes committed in the world, and to ensure legal accountability.

The Turkey Coalition for the International Criminal Court (TCICC), a member of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC), began its activities as an alliance of civil society organisations, the foundations of which were set in 2003 and the declaration of establishment of which was announced in 2005. The main objective of the TCICC is to conduct national and international civil advocacy for Turkey’s accession to the Rome Statute, the founding document of the ICC.

For us, as rights-based civil society organisations, violations of the laws of war contrary to the Geneva Conventions, harm to civilians, displacement, genocide and crimes against humanity in the conflicts unfolding in our nearby territory are unacceptable.

The TCICC, which had suspended its activities for a period of time, decided at its meeting in Ankara on 1 March 2025 to resume its work in order to protect and maintain national and international peace and to ensure that human rights violations committed in the course of conflicts do not result in impunity, regardless of who committed them and against whom.

We, as the organisations that form the Turkey Coalition for the International Criminal Court, hereby respectfully announce to the press and the public that the activities of the TCICC will continue.
