İHD Statement on the Attack in İstanbul’s Taksim Square

We Condemn the Attack on İstiklal Street in İstanbul’s Taksim Square!

An attack was carried out on İstiklal Street in İstanbul’s Taksim Square in the afternoon today. The authorities stated that at least six people lost their lives and 81 people were wounded, including two in critical condition. It is reported that the wounded were being treated at the hospital. We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.

We condemn the perpetrators of the attack.

This heinous attack, which is a serious attack on the right to life, must be investigated immediately and effectively. The perpetrators of the act should be identified by acting in line with the society’s expectations of justice and truth, and the whole truth of the incident should be shared with the public. We also call on the authorities to take judicial and administrative measures against those who target individuals and a segment of society by using hate speech after similar incidents and against possible violations. We invite the authorities to protect the fundamental rights of citizens in such challenging times and everyone to act responsibly to prevent damage to social peace.
